To make a Hawaiian ham and cheese sandwich, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Sliced ham (such as Black Forest ham or honey-glazed ham)
- Sliced Swiss cheese or provolone cheese
- Pineapple rings (fresh or canned)
- Hawaiian sweet rolls or sandwich buns
- Mayonnaise or mustard (optional)
- Butter or cooking spray for grilling (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. If desired, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or mustard on the inside of the sandwich buns for added flavor.
- Layer the sliced ham and cheese on the bottom half of each sandwich bun. Top with a pineapple ring, ensuring that it covers the entire surface of the sandwich.
- Place the top half of each sandwich bun on top of the pineapple ring to form a sandwich.
- If using butter, spread a small amount on the outside of each sandwich bun to promote browning and crispiness during grilling. Alternatively, you can use cooking spray to grease the skillet or griddle.
- Place the assembled sandwiches in the preheated skillet or griddle. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Remove the sandwiches from the skillet or griddle and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Slice the sandwiches in half and serve warm. Enjoy them as a satisfying lunch or dinner option, or pack them up for a beach picnic or backyard barbecue.
