After curing and trimming, the onions need to be stored in a manner that allows for air circulation and keeps them cool and dry:
- Location:
- Choose a cool, dry place with temperatures ideally between 35-40°F (1-4°C). Basements, cellars, or a cool pantry can work well.
- Containers:
- Store onions in mesh bags, old pantyhose, or any container that allows air to circulate. Hang them to avoid any pressure points which can encourage spoilage.
- Avoid Moisture and Light:
- Keep onions away from moisture as it can promote rot. Darkness is preferable as light can cause onions to sprout.
